BIOGRAPHY

Linda Young has dedicated the last 43 years to education and our community.. As the School Board member representing District C, Linda will work for what’s best for our children, our schools, and the taxpayers’ pocketbook.

Linda remembers that as a child, her mother, Louise, stressed the importance of education. Linda and her brother and three sisters would take turn playing ‘teacher’ at their home in Dayton Ohio. As she grew up, Linda learned the importance of high expectations in the lives of young children and how these seeds of expectations must be planted and nurtured throughout young children’s lives.

Linda’s love of languages led her to a degree in Spanish, Speech, and English and to her first teaching job at Roth High School in Dayton, Ohio. In addition to teaching English and Spanish classes and working as a faculty advisor to the school newspaper and yearbook, Linda received her Masters Degree in School Psychology. After working as a school psychologist in Dayton, Ohio and Colorado Springs, Linda Young and her husband would move to Las Vegas, Nevada in Clark County in 1976.

Linda began her 32 years of service in the Clark County School District as a school psychologist. Throughout her years working for the CCSD, Linda has served in various positions, including director of special education, Dean of Students at Clark High School, Assistant Principal at Rancho High School, Sixth Grade Center Principal at Jo Mackey, and Director of Student Success/Community Outreach Educational Programs.

For the past six years, Linda has worked as the Director of Equity and Diversity Education Department. This role is a particularly good fit for Linda, since it combines her commitments to a quality education for ALL students by providing a strong educational training for teachers, with parental and community involvement in education.

Linda received her Doctorate in Education, Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. She has served as adjunct faculty at Nova University in special education and at UNLV in Multicultural Education.

Linda’s commitment to improving her community goes far beyond her work with the CCSD. Working with her neighbors, Linda founded the Northwest Area Residents Association. They were so impressed with her tireless work for responsible neighborhood development and to make sure that the needs of the people are adequately addressed that she was elected president for multiple terms. Linda currently servers on the Clark County Flood Control District as the City of Las Vegas representative on the Citizen Advisory Committee. As a former member of the City of Las Vegas Ethics Review Commission, Linda is dedicated to promoting a higher standard of public behavior. She is the past president of the Las Vegas and Colorado Springs Alumni Chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and has helped raise thousands of dollars for students scholarship, community and educational programs.

When not busy with her many community commitments, Linda spends her time growing roses, cooking, learning other languages and writing. She has written five children’s books ‘The Pretty Little Red Rose’ series. Also, her book of poetry, ‘Life’s Snapshot of Soul’ will be published later this year.
